1 Pavel, cel chemat să fie apostol al lui Hristos Iisus prin voia lui Dumnezeu, şi fratele Sostene, 2 către Biserica lui Dumnezeu care este în Corint, către cei sfinţiţi în Hristos Iisus, chemaţi să fie sfinţi, şi către toţi cei care pretutindeni cheamă Numele Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos, Domnul lor şi al nostru. 3 Har vouă şi pace de la Dumnezeu Tatăl nostru şi de la Domnul Iisus Hristos!
Rugăciune de mulţumire
4 Mulţumesc întotdeauna Dumnezeului meu pentru voi, pentru harul lui Dumnezeu care vi s-a dat în Hristos Iisus, 5 căci în El v-aţi îmbogăţit în toate, pe deplin, şi în cuvânt, şi în cunoaştere 6 – aşa s-a adeverit în voi mărturia lui Hristos – 7 încât nu sunteţi lipsiţi de nici un dar duhovnicesc câtă vreme aşteptaţi arătarea Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos. 8 El vă va întări până la sfârşit, ca să fiţi fără prihană în ziua Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos. 9 Credincios este Dumnezeu, prin care aţi fost chemaţi să aveţi parte la moştenirea Fiului Său Iisus Hristos, Domnul nostru.
Neînţelegerile din Corint
10 Vă rog, fraţilor, pentru Numele Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos, să fiţi cu toţii de acord şi să nu mai fie între voi dezbinări, ci să fiţi uniţi în acelaşi cuget şi în acelaşi gând. 11 Pentru că mi s-a spus despre voi, fraţii mei, de către cei din casa lui Hloe, că între voi sunt certuri. 12 Şi spun aceasta fiindcă fiecare dintre voi zice: „Eu sunt al lui Pavel”! „Eu sunt al lui Apolo”! „Eu al lui Chefa”! „Iar eu al lui Hristos”! 13 A fost oare Hristos împărţit? Nu cumva Pavel s-a răstignit pentru voi? Sau nu cumva în numele lui Pavel aţi fost botezaţi? 14 Mulţumesc lui Dumnezeu că nu am botezat pe nimeni, în afară de Crispus şi Gaius, 15 ca să nu spună cineva că v-aţi botezat în numele meu. 16 Şi am mai botezat pe cei din casa lui Stefanas; în rest nu ştiu să mai fi botezat pe altcineva. 17 Pentru că Hristos nu m-a trimis să botez, ci să vestesc evanghelia, dar nu cu înţelepciunea cuvântului, ca nu cumva crucea lui Hristos să fie în zadar.
Hristos, puterea şi înţelepciunea lui Dumnezeu
18 Căci cuvântul despre cruce este nebunie pentru cei ce pier, dar pentru noi, cei ce ne mântuim, este puterea lui Dumnezeu. 19 Căci aşa stă scris:
Voi face să piară înţelepciunea înţelepţilor
şi ştiinţa celor învăţaţi o voi lepăda.
20 Unde este înţeleptul? Unde este cărturarul? Unde este gânditorul veacului acestuia? Nu a arătat Dumnezeu că înţelepciunea lumii acesteia este nebună? 21 Căci, de vreme ce, în înţelepciunea lui Dumnezeu, lumea nu L-a cunoscut pe Dumnezeu prin înţelepciunea ei, Dumnezeu a binevoit să-i mântuiască pe cei care cred prin nebunia celor vestite; 22 pentru că iudeii cer semne, iar grecii caută înţelepciune, 23 dar noi Îl vestim pe Hristos cel răstignit, care pentru iudei este piatră de poticnire, iar pentru neamuri nebunie, 24 însă pentru cei chemaţi, iudei sau greci, Îl vestim pe Hristos, puterea lui Dumnezeu şi înţelepciunea lui Dumnezeu. 25 Pentru că ceea ce pare a fi nebunie a lui Dumnezeu este mai înţeleaptă decât oamenii, iar ceea ce pare a fi slăbiciune a lui Dumnezeu este mai tare decât oamenii.
26 Fraţilor, uitaţi-vă la chemarea voastră: nu mulţi sunteţi înţelepţi după măsura oamenilor, nu mulţi sunteţi puternici, nu mulţi sunteţi de neam bun; 27 dar, ca să îi ruşineze pe cei înţelepţi, Dumnezeu le-a ales pe cele socotite nebune de lume; şi, ca să le ruşineze pe cele tari, Dumnezeu le-a ales pe cele slabe ale lumii; 28 şi pe cele fără de neam bun ale lumii şi pe cele nebăgate în seamă de lume le-a ales Dumnezeu, pe cele ce nu sunt, ca să le nimicească pe cele ce sunt, 29 pentru ca nici un om să nu se laude înaintea lui Dumnezeu. 30 Din El sunteţi şi voi în Hristos Iisus, cel care s-a făcut pentru noi înţelepciune de la Dumnezeu, dreptate şi sfinţire şi răscumpărare, 31 ca să fie precum stă scris: Cel ce se laudă, în Domnul să se laude.

4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; 6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called : 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea , and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
