Salutări
1 Pavel, apostol al lui Hristos Iisus prin voinţa lui Dumnezeu, şi fratele Timotei, către Biserica lui Dumnezeu care se află în Corint şi către toţi sfinţii care se află în toată Ahaia: 2 har vouă şi pace de la Dumnezeu Tatăl nostru şi de la Domnul Iisus Hristos.
Rugăciune de mulţumire
3 Binecuvântat să fie Dumnezeu şi Tatăl Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos, Tatăl îndurărilor şi Dumnezeul tuturor mângâierilor, 4 care ne mângâie în orice suferinţă a noastră, ca şi noi să-i putem mângâia pe cei care se află în orice suferinţă prin mângâierea cu care am fost mângâiaţi şi noi de Dumnezeu. 5 Căci după cum sunt din belşug pătimirile lui Hristos pentru noi, la fel, prin Hristos, este din belşug şi mângâierea noastră. 6 Aşadar, când suntem în necaz, suntem pentru mângâierea şi mântuirea voastră; când suntem mângâiaţi, suntem pentru mângâierea care vă face să înduraţi cu răbdare aceleaşi suferinţe pe care le îndurăm şi noi. 7 Şi nădejdea noastră în ceea ce vă priveşte este neclintită, ştiind că, după cum sunteţi părtaşi la pătimirile noastre, tot aşa sunteţi şi la mângâieri.
8 Fiindcă, fraţilor, vrem să ştiţi şi voi prin ce necaz am trecut în Asia, un necaz de care am fost copleşiţi peste măsură şi peste puterile noastre, încât ne pierduserăm nădejdea de a mai trăi. 9 Am crezut chiar că suntem condamnaţi la moarte, ca să nu ne încredem în noi înşine, ci în Dumnezeu, cel care învie morţii. 10 El ne-a scăpat de o astfel de moarte şi ne va scăpa, şi noi avem această nădejde că ne va scăpa din nou, 11 fiind ajutaţi prin rugăciunea voastră pentru noi, astfel încât prin darul dobândit de mai mulţi oameni, mulţi să aducă mulţumiri pentru noi.
Amânarea vizitei
12 Căci aceasta este mândria noastră: mărturia cugetului nostru că ne-am purtat, în lume şi mai ales faţă de voi, cu sinceritatea şi nevinovăţia lui Dumnezeu, nu cu înţelepciunea omenească, ci cu harul lui Dumnezeu. 13 Căci nu vă scriem altceva decât ceea ce citiţi şi cunoaşteţi. Şi sper că până la sfârşit veţi înţelege, 14 după cum aţi înţeles deja, că mândria voastră suntem noi, iar voi sunteţi mândria noastră în ziua Domnului nostru Iisus.
15 Cu această încredinţare voiam să vin mai întâi la voi, ca să primiţi un al doilea har. 16 De la voi să trec în Macedonia, apoi, din nou, din Macedonia să mă întorc la voi, iar voi să mă ajutaţi să plec în Iudeea. 17 Aşadar, plănuind acest lucru m-am purtat oare cu uşurătate? Sau ceea ce vreau, vreau oare după trup, astfel încât în mine să fie în acelaşi timp şi da şi nu? 18 Martor este Dumnezeu că faţă de voi cuvântul nostru nu este şi „da” şi „nu”. 19 Căci Fiul lui Dumnezeu, Iisus Hristos, cel pe care noi L-am vestit printre voi – eu, Silvan şi Timotei – nu a fost şi „da” şi „nu”, ci în el, nu a fost decât „da!” 20 Şi toate făgăduinţele lui Dumnezeu au devenit în El „da”. Şi de aceea, prin El, îi înălţăm lui Dumnezeu „aminul” nostru pentru slava sa. 21 Iar Dumnezeu este cel care ne întăreşte şi pe noi şi pe voi în Hristos. El ne-a uns, 22 ne-a pecetluit şi ne-a dat arvuna Duhului în inimile noastre.
23 Îl chem pe Dumnezeu ca martor al sufletului meu că nu am mai venit la Corint fiindcă am vrut să vă cruţ. 24 Nu că am fi noi stăpâni pe credinţa voastră, ci lucrăm împreună pentru bucuria voastră, fiindcă aţi rămas tari în credinţă.
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia: 2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation. 8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: 10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us ; 11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. 13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end; 14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit; 16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea. 17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay? 18 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. 20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. 21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. 23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth. 24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
