Atenţionare împotriva părtinirii
1 Fraţii mei, credinţa în Domnul nostru Iisus Hristos, Domnul slavei, nu se potriveşte cu părtinirea. 2 Pentru că dacă intră în adunarea voastră un bărbat cu inel de aur şi îmbrăcăminte strălucitoare şi intră şi un sărac cu haină ponosită, 3 iar voi ţineţi seama numai de cel ce poartă haină strălucitoare şi-i ziceţi: „Tu aşează-te comod aici!” pe când săracului îi ziceţi: „Tu stai acolo în picioare!” sau: „Aşează-te la picioarele mele!” 4 oare nu aţi făcut voi deosebire în sinea voastră şi v-aţi făcut judecători cu gânduri rele?
5 Ascultaţi, fraţii mei iubiţi: Oare nu Dumnezeu i-a ales pe cei săraci în ochii lumii, dar bogaţi în credinţă şi moştenitori ai Împărăţiei pe care a făgăduit-o celor ce-L iubesc? 6 Iar voi nu l-aţi cinstit şi pe cel sărac. Oare nu bogaţii vă asupresc şi nu ei vă târăsc prin judecătorii? 7 Nu ei hulesc Numele bun al lui Iisus Hristos care a fost chemat asupra voastră ? 8 Dacă, într-adevăr, împliniţi legea împărătească, potrivit Scripturii: Să-l iubeşti pe aproapele tău ca pe tine însuţi , bine faceţi; 9 dar dacă sunteţi părtinitori, săvârşiţi păcat, fiind condamnaţi de Lege drept călcători ai ei. 10 Pentru că oricine păzeşte toată Legea, dar greşeşte într-o singură poruncă, s-a făcut vinovat faţă de toate poruncile. 11 Căci Cel ce a zis: Să nu săvârşeşti adulter! a zis şi: Să nu ucizi! ; iar dacă tu nu săvârşeşti adulter, dar ucizi, ai ajuns călcător al Legii. 12 Aşa să vorbiţi şi aşa să lucraţi, ca unii care veţi fi judecaţi prin legea libertăţii; 13 pentru că judecata este fără milă pentru cel ce n-a avut milă, dar mila biruieşte asupra judecăţii.
Nevoia de credinţă şi de fapte
14 Care este folosul, fraţii mei, dacă zice cineva că are credinţă, dar nu are fapte? Poate credinţa să-l mântuiască? 15 Dacă un frate sau o soră sunt goi şi lipsiţi de hrana zilnică, 16 iar cineva dintre voi le-ar zice: „Mergeţi în pace! Încălziţi-vă şi săturaţi-vă!”, fără a le oferi cele necesare trupului, care este folosul? 17 Tot aşa şi credinţa, dacă nu are fapte, este moartă în ea însăşi.
18 Însă altcineva îi poate spune: Tu ai credinţă, iar eu am fapte; arată-mi credinţa ta fără fapte, iar eu îţi voi arăta din faptele mele credinţa mea. 19 Tu crezi că este un singur Dumnezeu şi bine faci, dar şi demonii cred şi se cutremură. 20 Nu vrei să înţelegi o dată, om necugetat, că fără fapte credinţa nu lucrează? 21 Avraam, părintele nostru, oare nu din fapte a fost socotit drept, când l-a aşezat pe altarul de jertfă pe Isaac, fiul său? 22 Vezi cum credinţa lucra împreună cu faptele lui şi cum faptele au desăvârşit credinţa? 23 Şi aşa s-a împlinit Scriptura, care spune: Avraam s-a încrezut în Dumnezeu şi aceasta i s-a socotit lui ca dreptate şi a fost numit prieten al lui Dumnezeu . 24 Vedeţi că prin fapte este pus omul în starea de dreptate şi nu numai prin credinţă! 25 La fel a fost şi cu Rahab, prostituata: nu a fost ea prin fapte pusă în starea de dreptate, când i-a primit pe cei trimişi şi i-a scos afară din cetate pe alt drum? 26 Aşadar, precum trupul fără duh este mort, la fel şi credinţa fără fapte este moartă.
1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; 3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: 4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? 5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? 6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? 7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? 8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: 9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point , he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
