Avertizări pentru cei bogaţi
1 Iar acum voi, bogaţilor, plângeţi şi tânguiţi-vă pentru necazurile ce vor veni asupra voastră. 2 Bogăţia voastră a putrezit şi hainele v-au fost mâncate de molii, 3 aurul vostru şi argintul au ruginit, iar rugina lor va da mărturie împotriva voastră şi ca focul vă va mistui carnea, pentru că aţi strâns comori în zilele din urmă. 4 Iată, plata lucrătorilor care au secerat pământurile voastre şi pe care voi aţi oprit-o strigă, iar strigătele secerătorilor au ajuns la urechile Domnului Savaot. 5 V-aţi desfătat pe pământ şi v-aţi dezmierdat, v-aţi îngrăşat inimile în ziua junghierii; 6 l-aţi osândit, l-aţi omorât pe cel drept, deşi el nu vi se împotrivea.
Răbdarea şi rugăciunea
7 Fraţilor, răbdaţi îndelung până la venirea Domnului. Iată, plugarul aşteaptă rodul de mare preţ al pământului şi pentru el rabdă mult, până primeşte ploaie timpurie şi târzie. 8 Răbdaţi şi voi îndelung, întăriţi-vă inimile, pentru că venirea Domnului s-a apropiat. 9 Nu murmuraţi unul împotriva celuilalt, fraţilor, ca să nu fiţi judecaţi. Iată, Judecătorul e chiar la uşă. 10 Luaţi-i ca pildă de suferinţă şi îndelungă răbdare pe profeţii care au vorbit în Numele Domnului. 11 Iată, noi îi fericim pe cei ce au răbdat; aţi auzit de răbdarea lui Iov şi aţi văzut sfârşitul dăruit lui de Dumnezeu, căci Domnul este plin de milostivire şi îndurător.
12 Înainte de toate, fraţii mei, să nu juraţi nici pe cer, nici pe pământ şi cu nici un fel de jurământ; ci la voi „da” să fie „da”, iar „nu” să fie „nu”, ca să nu cădeţi sub judecată.
Suferinţă, rugăciune şi credinţă
13 Este cineva dintre voi în suferinţă? Să se roage! Este cineva bucuros? Să cânte psalmi! 14 Este cineva bolnav printre voi? Să cheme prezbiterii Bisericii şi să se roage pentru el, ungându-l cu untdelemn în Numele Domnului. 15 Şi rugăciunea cu credinţă îl va salva pe cel bolnav şi Domnul îl va ridica; şi dacă a făcut păcate, i se vor ierta. 16 Mărturisiţi-vă, aşadar, păcatele unul altuia şi rugaţi-vă unul pentru altul ca să vă vindecaţi. Rugăciunea stăruitoare a celui drept are multă putere. 17 Ilie era un om care suferea ca şi noi şi când s-a rugat el să nu plouă, nu a plouat pe faţa pământului trei ani şi jumătate; 18 şi când s-a rugat iarăşi, cerul a dat ploaie şi pământul a odrăslit şi a dat rod.
Încheiere şi îndemn la pocăinţă
19 Fraţii mei, dacă vreunul din voi se va rătăci de la calea adevărului şi cineva îl va întoarce, 20 să se ştie că cel ce l-a întors pe păcătos din rătăcirea căii lui i-a mântuit sufletul din moarte şi i-a acoperit mulţime de păcate.
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you . 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. 3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. 4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. 5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. 6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. 8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. 9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. 10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. 12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
