Trimiterea celor Doisprezece
1 Apoi Iisus i-a chemat pe cei doisprezece ucenici ai Săi şi le-a dat putere să scoată duhurile necurate şi să vindece orice boală şi orice slăbiciune. 2 Iată numele celor doisprezece apostoli: întâi, Simon, zis Petru, şi Andrei, fratele lui; apoi Iacov, fiul lui Zebedeu, şi Ioan, fratele lui; 3 Filip şi Bartolomeu; Toma şi Matei, vameşul; Iacov, fiul lui Alfeu, şi Levi, zis şi Tadeu; 4 Simon Canaanitul şi Iuda Iscarioteanul, care L-a vândut pe Iisus. 5 Aceştia sunt cei doisprezece pe care i-a trimis Iisus, după ce le-a poruncit: „Să nu mergeţi pe calea păgânilor şi să nu intraţi în vreo cetate a samaritenilor. 6 Ci să mergeţi mai degrabă la oile pierdute ale casei lui Israel. 7 Pe drum, predicaţi şi ziceţi: Împărăţia cerurilor este aproape! 8 Vindecaţi bolnavii, înviaţi morţii, curăţiţi leproşii, alungaţi demonii. În dar aţi primit, în dar să daţi! 9 Nu luaţi cu voi nici aur, nici argint, nici aramă, 10 nici traistă pentru drum, nici două haine, nici încălţăminte, nici toiag, fiindcă vrednic este lucrătorul de hrana sa. 11 Când intraţi într-o cetate sau într-un sat, căutaţi cine este vrednic între ei şi să rămâneţi acolo până veţi pleca. 12 Când intraţi în casă, salutaţi-l, 13 iar dacă este casa aceea vrednică, pacea voastră să vină peste ea. Dar dacă este nevrednică, pacea voastră să se întoarcă la voi. 14 Dacă nu vă va primi cineva şi nu va asculta cuvintele voastre, să ieşiţi din casa sau din cetatea aceea şi să scuturaţi praful de pe picioarele voastre. 15 Adevărat vă spun că în ziua judecăţii va fi mai uşor pentru ţinuturile Sodomei şi Gomorei, decât pentru cetatea aceea.
Avertizări despre persecuţiile viitoare
16 Iată, Eu vă trimit ca pe nişte oi în mijlocul lupilor. Fiţi deci înţelepţi ca şerpii şi fără răutate ca porumbeii. 17 Păziţi-vă de oameni, fiindcă vă vor da în judecata sinedriilor şi vă vor bate în sinagogile lor. 18 Din cauza Mea, veţi fi duşi înaintea guvernatorilor şi înaintea împăraţilor, ca să slujiţi ca mărturie înaintea lor şi înaintea neamurilor. 19 Dar, când vă vor da în mâna lor, să nu vă îngrijoraţi gândindu-vă cum sau ce veţi spune, fiindcă ce veţi avea de spus vă va fi dat chiar în ceasul acela. 20 Căci nu veţi vorbi voi, ci Duhul Tatălui vostru va vorbi prin voi. 21 Fratele va da la moarte pe frate şi tatăl pe copilul lui. Copiii se vor scula împotriva părinţilor lor şi-i vor omorî. 22 Toţi vă vor urî din cauza Numelui Meu, dar cine va răbda până la sfârşit, va fi mântuit. 23 Când vă vor prigoni într-o cetate, să fugiţi într-alta. Adevărat vă spun, că nu veţi apuca să străbateţi cetăţile lui Israel până va veni Fiul Omului. 24 Ucenicul nu este mai presus de învăţătorul său, nici robul mai presus de stăpânul său. 25 Ajunge ucenicului să fie ca învăţătorul lui şi robului să fie ca stăpânul lui. Dacă pe Stăpânul casei L-au numit Beelzebul, cu cât mai mult îi vor numi aşa pe cei din casa Lui.
26 Aşadar, nu vă temeţi de ei, pentru că nu este nimic ascuns care nu va fi descoperit şi nimic tăinuit care nu va fi făcut cunoscut. 27 Ce vă spun Eu la întuneric, voi să spuneţi la lumină şi ce auziţi şoptindu-se la ureche, să predicaţi de pe acoperişul caselor. 28 Nu vă temeţi de cei ce ucid trupul, dar care nu pot ucide sufletul, ci temeţi-vă mai degrabă de cel ce poate să nimicească şi sufletul şi trupul în gheenă. 29 Nu se vând oare două păsări pe un ban? Totuşi, nici una din ele nu cade pe pământ fără voia Tatălui vostru! 30 Cât despre voi, până şi perii din cap, toţi vă sunt număraţi.
31 Deci să nu vă temeţi! Voi sunteţi mai de preţ decât orice pasăre. 32 De aceea, pe oricine Mă va mărturisi înaintea oamenilor, Îl voi mărturisi şi Eu înaintea Tatălui Meu care este în ceruri. 33 Dar oricine se va lepăda de Mine înaintea oamenilor, Mă voi lepăda şi Eu de el înaintea Tatălui Meu care este în ceruri. 34 Să nu credeţi că am venit s-aduc pacea pe pământ. N-am venit să aduc pacea, ci sabia. 35 Căci am venit să despart pe fiu de tată, pe fiică de mamă, şi pe noră de soacră. 36 Şi omul îi va avea de vrăjmaşi chiar pe cei din familia lui. 37 Cine îşi iubeşte tatăl sau mama mai mult decât pe Mine, nu este vrednic de Mine, iar cine îşi iubeşte fiul sau fiica mai mult decât pe Mine, nu este vrednic de Mine. 38 Cine nu-şi ia crucea şi nu vine după Mine, nu este vrednic de Mine. 39 Cine îşi va păstra viaţa, o va pierde şi cine îşi va pierde viaţa pentru Mine, o va câştiga.
Răsplătirile bunăvoinţei arătate în Numele lui Iisus
40 Cine vă primeşte pe voi, pe Mine Mă primeşte; şi cine Mă primeşte pe Mine, îl primeşte pe cel care m-a trimis. 41 Cine primeşte un profet, pentru că este profet, va primi răsplata unui profet şi cine primeşte pe un om drept, pentru că este un om drept, va primi răsplata unui om drept. 42 Şi oricine va da de băut chiar şi un pahar de apă rece unuia din aceştia mai mici, numai pentru că sunt ucenici, adevărat vă spun că nu-şi va pierde răsplata.”
1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, 10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. 11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. 12 And when ye come into an house, salute it. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
16 ¶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. 24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? 26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. 32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
40 ¶ He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. 41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
