1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; 2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; 4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 5 And this they did , not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God. 6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also. 7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. 8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. 9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. 11 Now therefore perform the doing of it ; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. 12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. 13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: 14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: 15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. 16 But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you. 17 For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you. 18 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; 19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind: 20 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: 21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you. 23 Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ. 24 Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.
Dărnicia creştinilor din Macedonia
1 Fraţilor, vă facem cunoscut harul pe care l-a dat Dumnezeu în Bisericile din Macedonia. 2 Căci în mijlocul marii suferinţe cu care au fost încercaţi, belşugul bucuriei şi sărăcia lor grea au prisosit prin bogăţia dărniciei lor. 3 Eu dau mărturie că au dat de bunăvoie după puterile lor, ba chiar peste puterile lor 4 şi ne-au cerut cu multe rugăminţi harul de a lua parte la ajutorarea sfinţilor. 5 Şi nu aşa cum speram noi, ci mai întâi s-au dăruit pe ei înşişi Domnului şi apoi nouă, prin voinţa lui Dumnezeu, 6 aşa încât l-am rugat pe Tit să ducă la capăt şi printre voi această strângere de ajutoare pe care o începuse. 7 Dar, aşa cum prisosiţi în toate, în credinţă şi în cuvânt, în cunoaştere şi zel şi în dragostea pe care aţi primit-o de la noi, să prisosiţi şi în această binefacere.
8 Nu spun aceasta ca pe o poruncă, ci, prin exemplul râvnei altora, vreau să pun la încercare adevărul iubirii voastre. 9 Căci voi cunoaşteţi harul Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos care, deşi era bogat, s-a făcut sărac, astfel încât prin sărăcia Lui voi să deveniţi bogaţi. 10 În această privinţă vă dau un sfat: această binefacere vă este folositoare vouă care, încă de anul trecut, aţi dorit să faceţi ceva şi aţi şi făcut. 11 Acum, din ceea ce aveţi, duceţi la bun sfârşit această lucrare, pentru ca împlinirea ei să fie pe măsura voinţei voastre pline de râvnă. 12 Fiindcă dacă există bunăvoinţă, darul este primit, potrivit cu ceea ce are cineva, nu cu ceea ce nu are. 13 Nu trebuie să li se aducă uşurare altora prin strâmtorarea voastră, ci să fie un echilibru: 14 belşugul vostru de acum să umple sărăcia lor, ca şi belşugul lor să fie pentru sărăcia voastră, să fie un echilibru, 15 după cum este scris:
Celui care a strâns mult nu i-a prisosit,
iar cel care a strâns puţin nu a dus lipsă.
Tit şi însoţitorii săi
16 Să-I mulţumim lui Dumnezeu, cel care a pus acelaşi zel pentru voi în inima lui Tit, 17 căci el nu numai că a primit îndemnul nostru, dar, fiind şi mai plin de râvnă, a plecat la voi de bunăvoie. 18 Împreună cu el l-am trimis şi pe fratele care este lăudat în toate Bisericile datorită evangheliei, 19 ba, mai mult, a fost şi ales de către Biserici ca însoţitorul nostru de călătorie în această lucrare de binefacere înfăptuită de noi pentru însăşi slava Domnului şi pentru a vă arăta înflăcărarea noastră. 20 Prin aceasta ne ferim ca cineva să ne vorbească de rău pentru strângerea de daruri pe care am făcut-o, 21 deoarece căutăm să facem ceea ce este bine nu numai înaintea Domnului, ci şi înaintea oamenilor. 22 L-am trimis cu ei şi pe fratele pe care l-am pus la încercare în multe împrejurări, de multe ori, şi a fost plin de zel. Acum însă este şi mai plin de râvnă, prin marea lui încredere pe care o are în voi. 23 Astfel, fie pentru Tit, însoţitorul şi colaboratorul meu pe lângă voi, fie pentru fraţii noştri, apostolii Bisericii şi slava lui Hristos, 24 arătaţi înaintea Bisericilor dovada iubirii voastre şi motivul pentru care suntem mândri de voi.
