1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. 3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. 4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son , which should betray him, 5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? 6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. 7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. 8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always. 9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 ¶ But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; 11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
12 ¶ On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. 14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, 15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. 16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. 17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. 18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
20 ¶ And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: 21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. 22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 ¶ And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. 27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. 28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying , I have both glorified it , and will glorify it again. 29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it , said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. 30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. 31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33 This he said, signifying what death he should die. 34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? 35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. 36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
37 ¶ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: 38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? 39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, 40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. 41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
42 ¶ Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him , lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44 ¶ Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. 45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. 46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. 47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
Ungerea cu mir, în Betania
1 Cu şase zile înainte de Paşte, Iisus a venit în Betania, unde era Lazăr pe care Iisus îl înviase din morţi. 2 I-au făcut acolo o cină şi Marta servea, iar Lazăr era unul dintre cei care stăteau la masă cu El. 3 Atunci Maria, luând o litră de parfum de nard, de mare preţ, I-a uns picioarele lui Iisus şi le-a şters cu părul ei, iar casa s-a umplut de mireasma parfumului. 4 Iuda Iscarioteanul, unul dintre ucenicii Lui, cel care avea să-L trădeze, a spus: 5 „De ce nu s-a vândut parfumul acesta cu trei sute de dinari, iar banii să fie daţi săracilor?” 6 Dar a spus aşa nu pentru că îi păsa de săraci, ci pentru că era hoţ şi pentru că, ţinând punga, lua din ceea ce se punea în ea. 7 Iisus a spus: „Las-o, fiindcă ea l-a păstrat pentru ziua îngropării Mele. 8 Pe săraci îi aveţi întotdeauna cu voi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi întotdeauna.”
9 O mulţime mare de iudei au aflat că este acolo şi s-au dus nu numai pentru Iisus, ci şi ca să-l vadă pe Lazăr, pe care îl înviase din morţi. 10 Marii preoţi au hotărât să îl omoare şi pe Lazăr, 11 pentru că din cauza Lui mulţi iudei plecau de la ei şi credeau în Iisus.
Intrarea triumfală în Ierusalim
12 În ziua următoare mulţimea cea mare care venise la sărbătoare, când a auzit că Iisus vine în Ierusalim, 13 au luat ramuri de palmier, au ieşit în întâmpinarea Lui şi strigau:
Osana!
Binecuvântat e cel care vine în Numele Domnului,
Împăratul lui Israel!
14 Iisus a găsit un măgăruş şi s-a suit pe el, după cum stă scris:
15 Nu te teme, fiica Sionului!
Iată, Împăratul tău vine
şezând pe mânzul asinei!
16 Ucenicii Lui nu au înţeles la început, dar când Iisus a fost preamărit, atunci şi-au adus aminte că acestea au fost scrise despre El şi că acestea au fost făcute pentru El. 17 Aşadar, mulţimea care era cu El când l-a chemat pe Lazăr din mormânt şi l-a înviat din morţi, dădea mărturie. 18 De aceea I-a ieşit în întâmpinare mulţimea, pentru că auziseră că făcuse acest semn. 19 Fariseii au zis între ei: „Vedeţi că nu izbândiţi nimic? Iată că lumea a mers după El!”
Preamărirea Fiului Omului
20 Printre cei care urcaseră să se închine la sărbătoare erau şi greci. 21 Aceştia au venit la Filip, cel din Betsaida Galileii, şi l-au rugat: „Domnule, vrem să-L vedem pe Iisus.” 22 Filip a venit şi i-a spus lui Andrei; Andrei şi Filip au venit la Iisus. 23 Iisus le-a răspuns: „A venit ceasul să fie preamărit Fiul Omului. 24 Adevărat, adevărat vă spun, dacă bobul de grâu căzut în pământ nu moare, rămâne singur; dar dacă moare, aduce mult rod. 25 Cine îşi iubeşte viaţa o va pierde şi cine îşi urăşte viaţa în lumea aceasta şi-o va păstra pentru viaţa veşnică. 26 Dacă îmi slujeşte cineva, să Mă urmeze; şi unde sunt Eu, acolo va fi şi slujitorul Meu. Dacă îmi slujeşte cineva, Tatăl Meu îl va cinsti.
Iisus vorbeşte despre moartea sa
27 Acum sufletul Meu e tulburat şi ce voi spune? Tată, scapă-mă de ceasul acesta? Dar pentru aceasta am venit, pentru ceasul acesta. 28 Tată, preamăreşte Numele Tău!” Atunci s-a auzit un glas din cer: „L-am preamărit şi îl voi mai preamări.” 29 Iar mulţimea care stătea şi asculta zicea că a fost un tunet. Alţii spuneau: „I-a vorbit un înger.” 30 Iisus a răspuns: „Nu pentru Mine a fost glasul acesta, ci pentru voi. 31 Acum este judecata lumii, acum va fi aruncat afară stăpânitorul lumii acesteia. 32 Şi Eu, când voi fi înălţat de la pământ, îi voi atrage pe toţi la Mine.” 33 Şi spunea aceasta arătând în ce fel avea să moară. 34 Mulţimea I-a răspuns deci: „Noi am auzit din Lege că Hristos rămâne în veci; cum spui tu că Fiul Omului trebuie să fie înălţat? Cine este acest Fiu al Omului?” 35 Aşadar Iisus le-a răspuns: „Încă puţină vreme Lumina mai este printre voi. Umblaţi cât timp aveţi Lumina, ca să nu vă prindă întunericul. Iar cel care umblă în întuneric nu ştie unde merge. 36 Cât aveţi Lumina, credeţi în Lumină, ca să deveniţi fii ai Luminii.”
Necredinţa iudeilor
Iisus a spus acestea şi, după ce a plecat, s-a ascuns de ei. 37 Deşi făcuse atâtea semne înaintea lor, ei nu credeau în El, 38 ca să se împlinească cuvântul profetului Isaia, care a spus:
Doamne, cine a crezut vestirea noastră?
Şi braţul Domnului cui i s-a dezvăluit?
39 De aceea nu puteau crede, fiindcă tot Isaia spune:
40 Le-a orbit ochii
şi le-a împietrit inima
ca nu cumva să vadă cu ochii
şi să priceapă cu inima, să se întoarcă
şi să îi vindec.
41 Acestea le-a spus Isaia pentru că a văzut slava Lui şi a vorbit despre El. 42 Cu toate acestea, au crezut în El şi multe dintre căpetenii, dar nu mărturiseau din pricina fariseilor, ca să nu fie alungaţi din sinagogă, 43 fiindcă au iubit mai mult slava oamenilor decât slava lui Dumnezeu.
44 Iisus a strigat: „Cine crede în Mine nu în Mine crede, ci în Acela care M-a trimis. 45 Şi cine Mă vede pe Mine Îl vede pe Acela care M-a trimis. 46 Eu am venit ca lumină în lume, ca oricine crede în Mine să nu rămână în întuneric. 47 Şi dacă aude cineva cuvintele Mele şi nu le păzeşte, eu nu-l judec, fiindcă nu am venit să judec lumea, ci să mântuiesc lumea. 48 Cine Mă nesocoteşte pe Mine şi nu primeşte cuvintele Mele, are de cine să fie judecat: cuvântul pe care l-am spus, acela îl va judeca în ziua din urmă. 49 Fiindcă Eu nu am vorbit de la Mine Însumi, ci Tatăl care M-a trimis, El mi-a dat poruncă ce să spun şi ce să vorbesc. 50 Şi ştiu că porunca Lui este viaţă veşnică. Aşadar ceea ce spun Eu, spun după cum mi-a spus Tatăl.”
