1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not . 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they which heard it , being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12 ¶ Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. 13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. 14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. 15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. 16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. 17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. 18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. 19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. 20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come. 21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. 22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. 23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he , ye shall die in your sins. 25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. 26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. 27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he , and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. 30 As he spake these words, many believed on him. 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 ¶ They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. 37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. 38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. 39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. 41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. 42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. 48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? 49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. 50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. 51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. 52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. 53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? 54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: 55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it , and was glad. 57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. 59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
Iisus şi iertarea femeii adultere
1 Iisus s-a dus pe Muntele Măslinilor. 2 Dar în zori a venit din nou în Templu şi tot poporul venea la El, iar El, stând jos, îi învăţa. 3 Cărturarii şi fariseii au adus o femeie prinsă în adulter şi, punând-o în mijloc, 4 I-au zis: „Învăţătorule, femeia aceasta a fost prinsă pe când săvârşea adulter, 5 iar în Lege, Moise ne-a poruncit ca pe unele ca acestea să le ucidem cu pietre. Aşadar, Tu ce spui?” 6 Ziceau aşa ca să-L pună la încercare şi ca să aibă pentru ce să-L acuze. Dar Iisus, aplecându-se, scria cu degetul pe pământ. 7 Şi cum ei Îl tot întrebau, s-a ridicat şi le-a spus: „Acela dintre voi care e fără păcat, să dea primul cu piatra în ea.” 8 Şi, aplecându-se din nou, scria pe pământ. 9 Iar ei, când au auzit, au plecat unul câte unul, începând cu cei mai bătrâni. El a rămas singur cu femeia, care stătea în mijloc. 10 Iisus s-a ridicat şi i-a zis: „Femeie, unde s-au dus toţi? Nimeni nu te-a condamnat?” 11 Ea a spus: „Nimeni, Doamne.” Iisus i-a spus: „Nici eu nu te condamn. Mergi şi de acum înainte să nu mai păcătuieşti!”
Iisus, lumina lumii
12 Iisus a vorbit din nou: „Eu sunt lumina lumii: cel care Mă urmează nu va umbla în întuneric, ci va avea lumina vieţii.” 13 Atunci fariseii I-au spus: „Tu dai mărturie despre Tine Însuţi, deci mărturia Ta nu este adevărată.” 14 Iisus le-a răspuns: „Chiar dacă dau mărturie despre Mine Însumi, mărturia Mea este adevărată, pentru că ştiu de unde am venit şi unde Mă duc. Însă voi nu ştiţi nici de unde vin, nici unde Mă duc. 15 Voi judecaţi aşa cum judecă oamenii. Eu nu judec pe nimeni. 16 Şi chiar dacă judec, judecata Mea este adevărată, pentru că nu sunt singur, ci Eu şi Tatăl care M-a trimis. 17 Şi în Legea voastră este scris că mărturia a doi oameni este adevărată. 18 Eu sunt cel care dau mărturie despre Mine Însumi şi despre Mine dă mărturie Tatăl care M-a trimis.” 19 I-au spus atunci: „Unde este Tatăl Tău?” Iisus le-a răspuns: „Nu Mă cunoaşteţi nici pe Mine, nici pe Tatăl Meu. Dacă M-aţi cunoaşte pe Mine, L-aţi cunoaşte şi pe Tatăl Meu.” 20 Aceste cuvinte le-a spus lângă vistierie, pe când învăţa în Templu, dar nimeni nu a pus mâna pe El, fiindcă nu-I venise încă ceasul.
21 Apoi le-a mai spus: „Eu plec, iar voi Mă veţi căuta şi veţi muri în păcatul vostru. Unde Mă duc Eu, voi nu puteţi veni.” 22 Deci iudeii ziceau: „Nu cumva îşi va lua viaţa, de spune: Unde Mă duc Eu, voi nu puteţi veni?” 23 Şi El le spunea: „Voi sunteţi de aici de jos, Eu sunt de sus; voi sunteţi din lumea aceasta, Eu nu sunt din lumea aceasta. 24 V-am spus că veţi muri în păcatele voastre, pentru că dacă nu credeţi că Eu sunt, veţi muri în păcatele voastre.” 25 Ei Îi spuneau: „Tu cine eşti?” Iisus le-a zis: „Sunt ceea ce v-am zis de la început. 26 Am multe de spus şi de judecat cu privire la voi. Dar Cel care M-a trimis este adevărat şi Eu spun lumii ceea ce am auzit de la El.” 27 Dar ei nu au înţeles că le vorbea despre Tatăl. 28 Iisus le-a spus deci: „Când Îl veţi înălţa pe Fiul Omului, atunci veţi şti că Eu sunt şi că nu fac nimic de la Mine Însumi, ci, precum M-a învăţat Tatăl, aşa vorbesc. 29 Iar Cel care M-a trimis este cu Mine, nu M-a lăsat singur, pentru că Eu fac întotdeauna lucrurile care Îi sunt plăcute.” 30 Când a spus acestea, mulţi au crezut în El.
Despre adevăr
31 Aşadar Iisus le spunea iudeilor care crezuseră în El: „Dacă rămâneţi în cuvântul Meu, sunteţi cu adevărat ucenicii Mei 32 şi veţi cunoaşte adevărul, iar adevărul vă va elibera.” 33 Ei I-au răspuns: „Noi suntem urmaşii lui Avraam şi n-am fost niciodată robii nimănui. Cum spui Tu: Veţi fi liberi?” 34 Iisus le-a răspuns: „Adevărat, adevărat vă spun: oricine păcătuieşte este rob al păcatului. 35 Iar robul nu rămâne pentru totdeauna în casă. Fiul însă rămâne pentru totdeauna. 36 Aşadar, dacă Fiul vă eliberează, veţi fi cu adevărat liberi. 37 Ştiu că sunteţi urmaşii lui Avraam. Însă încercaţi să Mă omorâţi, deoarece cuvântul Meu nu-şi găseşte loc în voi. 38 Eu spun ceea ce am văzut la Tatăl Meu, iar voi faceţi ceea ce aţi auzit de la tatăl vostru.”
Iisus şi Avraam
39 Ei I-au răspuns: „Tatăl nostru este Avraam.” Iisus le-a spus: „Dacă sunteţi fiii lui Avraam, faceţi faptele lui Avraam! 40 Dar acum încercaţi să Mă ucideţi pe Mine, Cel care v-am spus adevărul pe care l-am auzit de la Dumnezeu: Avraam nu a făcut aşa. 41 Voi faceţi faptele tatălui vostru.” Ei au zis: „Noi nu suntem născuţi din adulter. Avem un singur tată: pe Dumnezeu.” 42 Iisus le-a zis: „Dacă Dumnezeu ar fi Tatăl vostru, M-aţi iubi, fiindcă Eu de la Dumnezeu am ieşit şi am venit. Pentru că nu am venit de la Mine Însumi, ci El M-a trimis. 43 De ce nu înţelegeţi spusele Mele? Pentru că nu puteţi asculta cuvântul Meu. 44 Voi sunteţi din tatăl vostru, Diavolul, şi vreţi să împliniţi dorinţele tatălui vostru. De la început el a fost ucigaş de oameni şi nu a stat în adevăr, pentru că în el nu este adevăr. Când spune minciuna, din ale lui spune, fiindcă este mincinos şi tatăl minciunii. 45 Însă Eu spun adevărul, pe Mine nu Mă credeţi. 46 Care dintre voi Mă poate acuza de păcat? Dacă spun adevărul de ce nu Mă credeţi? 47 Cel care este din Dumnezeu, ascultă cuvintele lui Dumnezeu. De aceea voi nu ascultaţi, pentru că nu sunteţi din Dumnezeu.”
48 Iudeii au răspuns: „Nu spunem noi bine că eşti samaritean şi că eşti posedat de diavol?” 49 Iisus a răspuns: „Eu nu sunt posedat de diavol, ci Îl cinstesc pe Tatăl Meu, iar voi nu Mă cinstiţi pe Mine. 50 Însă Eu nu caut slava Mea. Are cine să o caute şi să judece. 51 Adevărat, adevărat vă spun: dacă va păzi cineva cuvântul Meu, nu va vedea moartea în veci!” 52 Iudeii I-au zis: „Ştim acum că eşti posedat de diavol. Avraam a murit, şi profeţii la fel. Iar tu spui: Dacă va păzi cineva cuvântul Meu, nu va gusta moartea în veci. 53 Eşti oare Tu mai mare decât părintele nostru Avraam, care a murit? Şi profeţii au murit. Cine pretinzi că eşti?” 54 Iisus a răspuns: „Dacă Eu Mă slăvesc pe Mine Însumi, slava Mea nu înseamnă nimic. Tatăl Meu, despre care voi spuneţi că este Dumnezeul vostru, El este cel care Mă slăveşte. 55 Voi nu L-aţi cunoscut, însă Eu Îl cunosc. Şi dacă aş spune că nu Îl cunosc, aş fi mincinos, asemenea vouă. Dar Îl cunosc şi păzesc cuvântul Lui. 56 Avraam, părintele vostru, a tresăltat la gândul că va vedea ziua Mea: a văzut-o şi s-a bucurat.” 57 Atunci iudeii I-au spus: „Nu ai nici cincizeci de ani şi l-ai văzut pe Avraam?” 58 Iisus le-a zis: „Adevărat, adevărat vă spun, înainte să fie Avraam, Eu sunt.” 59 Atunci ei au luat pietre ca să arunce în El, dar Iisus s-a ascuns şi a ieşit din Templu.
