1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; 2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. 3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. 4 For every house is builded by some man ; but he that built all things is God. 5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; 6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. 7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. 10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) 12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Iisus este mai presus de Moise
1 De aceea, fraţi sfinţi, părtaşi la chemarea cerească, gândiţi-vă cu luare aminte la Iisus, apostolul şi marele preot al mărturisirii noastre, 2 care I-a fost credincios lui Dumnezeu, cel ce L-a făcut apostol şi mare preot, aşa cum şi Moise a fost credincios în toată casa lui. 3 El a fost vrednic de o slavă mai mare decât slava lui Moise, după cum cel care a zidit o casă primeşte o cinste mai mare decât casa însăşi. 4 Căci orice casă are un ziditor, iar cel ce le zideşte pe toate este Dumnezeu. 5 Moise, în ceea ce-l priveşte, a fost credincios în toată casa lui Dumnezeu, dar numai ca slujitor, ca o mărturie pentru cele ce urmau să fie spuse mai târziu. 6 Hristos însă a fost slujitor peste casa Lui – ca Fiu, iar casa aceasta suntem noi, dacă ne păstrăm îndrăzneala şi nădejdea cu care ne lăudăm.
Îndemn la pocăinţă şi credincioşie
7 De aceea, aşa cum spune Duhul Sfânt:
Astăzi dacă auziţi glasul Lui,
8 nu vă împietriţi inimile, ca în ceasul răzvrătirii,
ca în ziua ispitirii din pustiu,
9 când părinţii voştri m-au ispitit,
când m-au pus la încercare
şi au văzut lucrările Mele
10 vreme de patruzeci de ani.
De aceea, m-am mâniat pe neamul acesta
şi am zis: „Mereu îşi rătăcesc inimile,
n-au cunoscut căile Mele!”
11 Aşa cum am jurat în mânia Mea:
„Nu vor intra în odihna Mea!”
12 Aveţi grijă, fraţilor, să nu fie nimeni între voi cu inimă vicleană şi necredincioasă, care să vă îndepărteze de Dumnezeul cel Viu, 13 ci îndemnaţi-vă unii pe alţii în fiecare zi, cât încă se mai spune „astăzi”, ca nimeni dintre voi să nu se împietrească prin înşelăciunea păcatului; 14 căci noi suntem părtaşi cu Hristos, dacă ne păstrăm nezdruncinată până la sfârşit încrederea de la început, 15 după cum se zice:
Astăzi dacă auziţi glasul Lui
nu vă împietriţi inimile ca atunci, la răzvrătire!
16 Şi cine au fost cei care au auzit şi totuşi s-au răzvrătit? Nu au fost ei toţi cei care au ieşit din Egipt conduşi de Moise? 17 Şi pe cine s-a mâniat El timp de patruzeci de ani, nu pe ei, care au păcătuit şi ale căror trupuri au căzut moarte în pustiu? 18 Şi cui s-a jurat El că nu vor intra în odihna Lui? Nu lor, celor care nu-L ascultaseră? 19 Vedem că n-au putut intra din cauza necredinţei lor.
