1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it . 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
1 Să ne temem, aşadar, ca nu cumva, atâta vreme cât ne-a fost lăsată făgăduinţa intrării în odihna Lui, să pară că vreunul dintre voi a rămas în urmă, 2 căci şi noi am primit vestea cea bună, la fel ca şi ei; dar lor nu le-a folosit cuvântul auzit, pentru că nu a fost primit cu credinţă de cei ce l-au ascultat. 3 Noi însă, cei care am crezut, intrăm în odihna Lui, despre care spusese:
Cum am jurat în mânia Mea:
„Nu vor intra în odihna Mea!”
deşi lucrările Lui de la crearea lumii, erau împlinite. 4 Şi în altă parte se spune astfel despre ziua a şaptea: Şi Dumnezeu s-a odihnit în ziua a şaptea de toate lucrările Lui 5 iar, tot aici, se zice, mai departe: Nu vor intra în odihna Mea! 6 Aşadar, dacă cei dintâi care au primit vestirea nu au intrat din cauza neascultării, a rămas ca alţii să poată intra în această odihnă. 7 El hotărăşte din nou o zi, vorbind prin David:
Astăzi, după atâta vreme, la fel cum s-a spus şi mai înainte,
astăzi, dacă auziţi glasul Lui, ascultaţi,
nu vă împietriţi inimile!
8 Dacă Iosua le-ar fi dat odihna, nu ar fi zis aici nimic despre o altă zi, după atâta timp. 9 Mai rămâne deci o altă sărbătoare de odihnă pentru poporul lui Dumnezeu. 10 Iar cel ce a intrat în odihna lui Dumnezeu s-a odihnit şi el de lucrările făcute, după cum şi Dumnezeu s-a odihnit de lucrările Sale. 11 Să ne străduim deci să intrăm în această odihnă ca să nu cădem în acelaşi fel de neascultare!
12 Căci cuvântul lui Dumnezeu este viu şi puternic, mai tăios decât orice sabie cu două tăişuri, el pătrunde până unde se despart sufletul şi duhul, încheieturile şi măduva, şi este în stare să judece gândurile şi dorinţele inimii. 13 Nici o fiinţă nu este ascunsă de El, toate sunt goale şi descoperite înaintea ochilor Săi, în faţa Lui vom da socoteală.
Iisus este marele preot
14 Având, aşadar, un mare preot care a străbătut cerurile, pe Iisus, Fiul lui Dumnezeu, să ţinem cu putere mărturia, 15 căci noi nu avem un mare preot care să nu poată suferi împreună cu noi, în slăbiciunile noastre, ci unul care a fost ispitit în toate, asemenea nouă, dar fără păcat. 16 Să ne apropiem, aşadar, cu îndrăzneală de tronul harului, ca să primim milă şi să găsim har, ca să primim ajutorul Lui, la timpul potrivit.
